Doctoral students of the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience, a biological farm in Tornow and two students of the UdK Berlin create game prototypes and talk about emergence.
In a group of UdK students we created the Game Sprint, a framework to quickly find suitable game mechanics for real problems. In this workshop we gave participants from the neuroscience the tools to create games which resemble the biological and psychological mechanisms which they are working on - to gain a new understanding of the real world interaction patterns of their research, and to communicate their theories in an engaging way. The scientists were burning with ideas for their games and prototyped them with ease, mostly because nature offers plenty inspiration for concrete mechanics; from decision making to memory formation.
